Welcome to the Autumn Edition of The Heat! Fall is in the air and we just switched from iced coffees to hot apple cider and chai here at our studio. And with that cool air blowing in also comes some exciting new clients, projects and service offerings. So grab your sweater, and get on board as we journey into the wonders of autumn...
We've got action galore these days, but we'll just give you a taste in this issue involving guns, iPhones, bands and logistical brilliance.

First, about the guns. We completed a full visual identity design for Full Metal Armory, an edgy new gun, rifle, and ammo retailer based here in Kansas City. They wanted flavor and vision that went beyond cliche-ridden crosshairs, bullet holes, and M-16s commonly seen in this sector, and that's exactly what we accomplished. Experience it at their new microsite (www.fullmetalarmory.com), Twitter, and in our portfolio.

Next, iPhones and bands.
We are super-excited to announce our newest service offering - iPhone application design & development. We just finished a killer iPhone app for The Model Congress, an up-and-coming band bubbling on the Kansas City music scene. And yes, we DID just say we are now offering custom iPhone app design & development services for iPhones and the iPod Touch. There are a few sneak peeks on our Facebook page until the app is released to the public in conjunction with the band's upcoming EP, so hop over there and become a Facebook Fan why don't ya, and get the preview of what's to come.

And finally, about those logistics. Over the past year we've been working with Phoenix International to rebrand their company and bring their visual identity up to speed while their competitors fall asleep at the wheel. Phoenix International provides global logistics solutions to clients who need to move freight across the globe via land, sea, and air, and then some. If you've tuned into previous issues of The Heat, you've no doubt seen some of our prior strategic + design work for their brand, such as a revamped logo design, new website, last year's interactive holiday e-card, and beyond. Our latest work for them is a new promotional piece that ensures their print materials are as excellent as their service. Take a look at it here. |

Gloriously Bad Logo Design Fails Over here at House of Tears Design, we follow the rule, "always get an extra set of eyes." No matter if the project is big or small, we make a point to get the input of our teammates before releasing a piece to our clients and/or the world. Why? Because extra insight creates stronger design - and helps to prevent...shall we say...oversights? Looks like our rule could have helped the folks over at Wisconsin Tourism prevent this little snafu, which gave us a good chuckle worth sharing.
Upcoming Speaking Engagements: 10/13/09 @ 6p Curt, our studio's Principal, will be speaking at AIGA KC's "NEXT" Event on Tuesday, October 13th at 6p. The event is free and more details can be found here.
